“Everybody’s normal . . . ” – John Ortberg
Friday, September 24, 2010. Today I am grateful for John Ortberg, who wrote: Everybody’s Normal Till You Get to Know Them. 😮
Published in 2003, this book may be available in most libraries and is available at amazon.com:Â http://www.amazon.com/Everybodys-Normal-Till-Know-Them/dp/0310228646/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1285377002&sr=1-1#_
One of the things John suggests is that if we want to learn, we need to learn to accept differences and learn to listen. Too often we are so intent on getting our own point of view across that we do not remember that real learning comes from sincerely studying and engaging with other perspectives.
A little humility . . . teachability . . . coachability . . . helps a lot.
John suggests that we may need a course in “Relational Education” to get us back on the road, and then outlines five rules of the road to help us:
1. STOP
2. Sobriety Checkpoint Ahead
3. Warning: Construction Zone
4. Road Closed
5. Shoulder Work
Timely teaching for a self-obsessed world?
Thank you, John!
