Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Today I am grateful for my sweetheart, my wife Jeannette. It’s her birthday today! Happy birthdy, Sweetheart!
Jeannette follows the paradigm of Jeff Bell’s book: When in Doubt, Make Belief.
This is not a book about religion. It is a mental health book, and the more we can learn about the preservation of our mental health in our chaotic lives, the better, eh? 😮
Mental health trumps, and assists, physical health too!
As my physician son Robert says: “As the pilot goes, so goes the plane.” 😮

In academic and intellectual circles it is fashionable to disount belief. However, as scientists are beginning to recognize more and more, everyone, even the most devout atheist, uses different sets of ungrounded beliefs to further their work and ground their lives.
A true pardox. Yes.
What’s this got to do with learning? Everything. All learning involves a set of beliefs that guide the acquisition or new knowledge and new skills and new ideas and new helpful approaches and paradigms. Analogously to the set of beliefs that guide both scientists and non-scientists alike, albeit the set of beliefs may radically differ from person to person.
Parents and teachers and students are way ahead of the game when they stop the argument about belief, and recognize that belief guides everyone, even themselves.
Here’s to belief, in all its varied forms!

“Everybody’s normal . . . ” – John Ortberg
Friday, September 24, 2010. Today I am grateful for John Ortberg, who wrote: Everybody’s Normal Till You Get to Know Them. 😮

One of the things John suggests is that if we want to learn, we need to learn to accept differences and learn to listen. Too often we are so intent on getting our own point of view across that we do not remember that real learning comes from sincerely studying and engaging with other perspectives.
A little humility . . . teachability . . . coachability . . . helps a lot.
John suggests that we may need a course in “Relational Education” to get us back on the road, and then outlines five rules of the road to help us:
1. STOP
2. Sobriety Checkpoint Ahead
3. Warning: Construction Zone
4. Road Closed
5. Shoulder Work
Timely teaching for a self-obsessed world?

A peaceful person can teach about peace effectively, with humility.
A teacher who is always learning can teach about learning effectively, with humility.
A parent who is always learning can teach about learning effectively, with humility.

Hi,I’m Susan and I live in Gold Canyon, Arizona. I’m happy to share my educational expertise and to be your link to WORKSHOP WAY® information. My Master’s Degree is from Xavier University of Louisiana in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in WORKSHOP WAY. I knew and loved Grace Pilon while having the opportunity to study directly under her. I am one of only a few remaining people in the world that has this specialized degree and is still currently using the program in a classroom.I am currently an educational consultant with 13 years of experience as a former licensed consultant for WORKSHOP WAY. I dedicated 7 years of my life working as the Executive Director for the company’s Non-profit organization. Additionally, I have been implementing Grace Pilon’s philosophy and “System of Education” in my classroom for 20+ years. I am a certified K-8 teacher and have taught a vast array of grade levels. My classroom experience is primarily in the Public School system but includes work in a Charter School and in a Multi-age setting.
I have personally met many of you that are reading this text and visiting this website. I consider you friends and intend to continue assisting you in all aspects of the educational process to the best of my abilities.
